Middle-age Mutant Ninja Genes

Earl and I returned to visit with the geneticist and psychologist today to receive my results on the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 testing. What a relief to know that I tested negative for both!  If I had tested positive for a mutation of either tumor suppresor gene, I was mentally steeled to undergo further surgery to remove the other breast, my Fallopian tubes, and ovaries in order to reduce the greatly heightened risk for breast and ovarian cancers.  My risks for both ovarian cancer and breast cancer in the other breast are still elevated above the general population’s because I have already been diagnosed with breast cancer and my mother with ovarian cancer, but they’re well below the rates for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers.  Now we just have figure out whether Earl has any mutant genes.
